Applied Serendipity: March 21

CARE: In my mentoring and coaching practice I’m seeing a lot of turbulence in mid-to-senior roles. I’m expanding my work in these areas since we are at the beginning stages of a revolution in how work is done. It’s important to know what you care about—what matters to you—to best prepare yourself for disruptive change.

PREPARE: Have been testing using an AI assistant for meeting minutes—am in beta on this. Plan to incorporate into my meetings in the next week. I hate taking notes, and it’s always bothered me that this has been a job that has disproportionately fallen on women. No more! Finding more and more ways to use AI in my daily life. How about you?

AWARE: Spring arrived with snow, after one of the warmest winters on record in Western New York. Just as I was looking forward to checking on my daffodils today, instead I’m having coffee watching the sun rise in a wintry forest! The Total Eclipse of the Sun is just 12 days away—the weather may be a bit chilly and it looks like sun with some possible rain. I hope it’s warm enough for the bees to come out so I can test how they respond to sudden afternoon darkness. Getting my AudioMoth recorders all ready!

SHARE: I recorded a podcast on AI at Scale for Schneider Electric today with a team in Europe—and introduced my SWARM methodology for mobilizing and scaling AI, inspired by the metaphor of the honeybee. Schneider Electric is a Fortune Global 500 company, named to Time Magazine’s 2023 100 Most Influential Companies list for work done to help clients reduce greenhouse-gas emissions. I’m very proud of my partnership with Schneider. More to come when the podcast is released in May.

DARE: I got out my ukelele today and played and sang a bunch of old songs. Daring myself to get over my self-consciousness of playing the piano, guitar, ukelele, and other instruments I have around the house. Making music was such a big part of my life when I was younger. What did you love as a kid that you dare to re-introduce in your life today?
