Applied Serendipity: March 28
CARE: My daughter and I visited The Broadway Market, an Easter tradition. The market was started in the 19th century by Polish immigrants who took great care to preserve their traditions. To this day, at Easter time the market is filled with pisanki – Polish painted Easter eggs, butter lambs, sausages, spring bulbs, pussy willows, and Polish sweets like placek and chrusciki. We even had our picture taken with the Easter Bunny!
PREPARE: Getting ready for the Total Eclipse of the Sun. As I’ve shared, I’m conducting citizen science research for NASA and recording sounds by my beehives before, during and after the eclipse. I’ve ordered and prepared my equipment and am very excited!
AWARE: Will soon be announcing some new work I’m doing in AI to prepare tomorrow’s leaders. Thrilled about this opportunity and can’t wait to make you aware of it.
SHARE: Loved this piece in the WSJ about theater companies sharing their productions not in theaters, but in the community in factories, prisons, and retail spaces. From the article: “People are sick of supporting large theaters and their very gargantuan budgets,” said Patrick Walsh, whose company, Northwest Classical Theater Collaborative, mounted a production of Samuel Beckett’s “Happy Days” last year in a former Victoria’s Secret store. “People are really interested in seeing something cool that they can be a part of and can say, ‘I was there.’” We need more of this kind of creativity and resourcefulness. What can you “pop-up” in your community, instead of building something new? What interesting spaces and places could use some more life, art, and creativity?
DARE: I read a blog this week about confidence, and the author dared us to “back our big ideas!” What big ideas do you dare to dream? Are you committing to turning your dreams into reality, coming up with a plan, backing your big ideas with your full energy and resources? When I started my business in 2022, I debated whether to form an LLC, build a website, invest in my brand. Why would I remodel my house but question whether to invest in myself? I dare you to think big and not play small. Rather: Think big… start small… move fast… and back your big ideas. I dare you!
