Total Eclipse of the Sun
It's Total Eclipse of the Sun today and my beehives are in Totality! As you may know, I’m a data collector for NASA and recording audio data to monitor honeybee activity during totality. I've been recording non-stop since noon on April 6th, and will record through April 10th to collect 5 days of data. This way we can compare the period of Totality—or darkness—today during the Eclipse vs 2 days prior and 2 days after. Let's hope there are no technical or critter issues with my recording devices—after all, my audio devices are hanging on a tree branch in nature!
What will the bees do during this period of afternoon darkness? It's been warm here and they've been out foraging for the past 2 days. I'm predicting that many will attempt to head back to the hives as totality ensues... but will they all make it in time?
Stay tuned... and Happy Totality!
