Applied Serendipity: Sept. 20
CARE: One of my goals for this phase is to help train the next generation of data leaders. I’m excited to be on campus at Carnegie Mellon in October for a reunion of the four classes of Chief Data and Analytics Officer program graduates I’ve taught the past few years. More news on this topic ahead.
PREPARE: Looking forward to celebrating the autumnal equinox this weekend with my good friend who is visiting. Marshall Wsl, author of Cunning Words: a Grimoire of Tales and Magic, says, “The summer months are all about growth and bringing our endeavors to their fullest potential and the Autumnal Equinox is all about taking stock of what you've grown, harvesting it, and choosing how to best utilize it, magically and physically."
AWARE: I’ve had conversations with several women in the past few days from around the country—very accomplished women who have done extraordinary things, yet still lack confidence. This is an important issue I will be taking stock of this autumn to inform my work for 2024.
SHARE: When I play Wordle, I use a different starting word each day just to make it fun. When our dog died last week, I used the word ANGEL as a tribute to him, and decided to use this starting word for a few days to honor him. I was stunned that on Saturday it was the actual word—the only time I have solved in one guess. #AppliedSerendipity
DARE: Yesterday was Mountain Day, a special holiday at my alma mater Smith College. Each fall the college president cancels classes on a beautiful fall day and encourages students to take a day off and head outside. The holiday is a surprise and is announced in the morning by the ringing of the college bells. I dare you to cancel your schedule on a beautiful day and enjoy time in nature.
