Applied Serendipity: Feb. 26
CARE: Fentynal is the most dangerous drug to hit the streets, according to the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The DEA on their website that more than 78.4 million fentanyl-laced fake pills and nearly 12,000 pounds of fentanyl powder were seized last year—enough for more than 388 million lethal doses. Counterfeit versions of drugs like Xanax and Adderall that are sold on the internet or street can be laced with lethal doses of fentanyl. So taking just one counterfeit pill can result in death. I found this PSA called “Just One Pill” to be alarming and urgent. Please talk to your kids.
PREPARE: How should our kids prepare for the changing world? Jensen Huang, visionary CEO of Nvidia gives a counterintuitive take on what kids should be learning today, and it’s not learning to code—rather, it’s gaining deep domain knowledge from fields like education to biology.
AWARE: I’ve been a big fan of Ramit Sethi for several years. He has books, podcasts, and a Netflix show about having a rich life at any income level using systems and psychology. He encourages us to spend extravagantly on the things we care about and be ruthless about the things we don’t - it’s very liberating and fun. His approach to life is creative and practical and open. Greg and I are thinking about what our “rich life” looks like at this phase and we’re making a shared Google doc. My list starts with not setting an alarm! Check out Ramit here and think about what your rich life might look like.
SHARE: This past weekend we stopped by Buffalo AKG and I was moved by How High the Moon, the first retrospective of Stanley Whitney whose painting career spans 50 years. He is known most for his boldly colored grid patterns. I particularly enjoyed the displays of his sketchbooks in the gallery rooms that showed lines, form, color and pattern as well as words - these notebooks let us into his thinking process: what does “Doing Time?” mean to you? Provocative words and illustration; many ways to think about it…
DARE: Daring myself to reach out to some people I’ve been out of touch with!
