Applied Serendipity: April 26

CARE: Congratulations to the new Chief Data and Analytics Officer class at Carnegie Mellon. I had the privilege of teaching the capstone leadership class to close out the semester.

Now on to the Chief Data and AI Officer program starting in August and it’s filling up fast—join us for a game-changing program.

PREPARE: What I’ve learned so far on owning my own business…

  • Start your business part-time while you have a paid job if you have the luxury—it takes some pressure off and allows you to learn

  • Build a great team who can grow with you—shout out here to Kristen Johnson my rock star web designer and tech guru, Casi Hall for branding and design—not to mention my ace legal team to help with IP and contracts. If you want professional results, hire professionals.

  • Make it, don’t marinate it—if you’ve given it your best, serve it now and don’t overdo it.

  • All business is show business—act the part, look the part, and give a performance. People are paying you to deliver so give a little magic.

  • Move on and move up—be willing to let go of opportunities that drain you to make room for those that drive you.

SHARE: I’m signing my biggest client and opportunity yet because of these lessons.

AWARE: While in Pittsburgh this week, we stopped at The Andy Warhol Museum. Warhol’s take on being aware: “I just use whatever happens around me for my material. The world fascinates me. It’s so nice, whatever it is I approve of what everybody does…I accept things. I’m just watching, observing the world.”

DARE: “It’s never too late to build an Empire” -Martha Stewart
